
Stop Fighting Bathroom Mold with a Scrub Brush
Most people think those bathroom heating lamps are just there to keep you from shivering when you step out of the shower. But we built them to do something a bit more clever. Instead of just warming up the air, these lamps use specific infrared wavelengths to go after the real enemy: the moisture hiding in your walls. How it actually works We use something called short-wave infrared (SWIR). Now, typical heaters just push warm air around, which doesn’t do much for a damp corner. SWIR is different. It actually sinks into porous stuff—think of your grout or that silicone sealant around the tub. It makes the water molecules inside those materials vibrate, which basically forces the moisture out. When you flip the switch, the lamp creates a “dry zone.” And since mold spores can’t grab onto a bone-dry surface, they just… don’t grow. The guts of the machine To make this work, we use high-purity quartz glass. Why? Because we can’t have the glass blocking the heat before it even hits your wall. We also tuned the wattage to be punchy. It creates a quick, intense spike of heat on the surface of your walls. This drops the humidity right where the wall meets the air to almost zero. It’s fast. Really fast. A quick heads-up on placement Since these lamps pack a punch, you have to be smart about where you put them. If you mount them too low or put them right next to cheap plastic fixtures, you might actually warp the plastic. It’s a lot of energy in a small space. Just make sure you check the mounting height based on the wattage so you don’t accidentally overheat your ceiling. Better than a fan Think of the lamp as a helper for your exhaust fan. By drying out those damp corners and creases, it takes the pressure off your ventilation. In our experience, keeping the surfaces dry with infrared works way better than just blowing warm air around the room and hoping for the best. It’s just a simpler way to keep things fresh.
