
Keeping Bathrooms Warm Without Blinding Your Kids
When you’re building a bathroom heater, a waterproof seal is just the starting point. It’s not the hard part. The real challenge comes in when you’re designing for families—specifically when there are babies and toddlers in the mix. You can’t just blast a bright light in a small room and hope for the best. That’s why we focus on the “spectrum.” We use infrared lamps that put all their energy into heat rather than bright, harsh light. It keeps the room cozy without causing that annoying glare or straining sensitive eyes. The trick to the light Most standard halogen bulbs are just too bright. They hit you with a wall of visible light that feels like a spotlight in a dark room. To fix this, we use filtered quartz tubes. We basically shift the energy toward long-wave infrared. The result? You feel the warmth on your skin immediately, but the light stays soft. You lose a tiny bit of overall brightness, but it’s a trade-off worth making. It’s much kinder to the eyes. Dealing with the steam Bathrooms are basically steam rooms. To handle that, we build these units to IP66 standards. In plain English: they’re dust-tight and can handle a direct blast of water without flinching. We use silicone gaskets and alloys that won’t rust or pit over time. But here’s the catch. When you seal a unit that tightly to keep water out, the heat gets trapped inside the chassis. It gets hot. Really hot. Because of that, we use high-temp wiring. If you used standard wires, the insulation would eventually melt or burn out. We make sure the guts of the machine can handle the heat as well as the outside does. Getting it installed We wanted these to be a “drop-in” fix. No headaches for the contractor. We used standard connectors so the wiring is a breeze. Since quartz tubes are fragile, we added dampened mounting brackets to soak up any vibrations. One quick tip for the install: check your circuit breaker. These infrared lamps pull a lot of power the second you flip the switch to get them up to temperature. Just make sure your electrical panel is ready for the surge.
