Why We Use Explosion-Proof Quartz in Your Bathroom Heater
Think about your bathroom. It’s a weird place. One minute it’s freezing, and the next, it’s a steam room. Now, imagine putting a high-wattage infrared lamp right in the middle of that. You’ve got a filament glowing at an insane temperature. Then, a single drop of cold water lands on the glass. With regular quartz, that’s a recipe for disaster. The glass can’t handle that kind of sudden shock, and it just… pops. That’s why we don’t use standard glass. We use explosion-proof quartz. The “Why” Behind the Glass Here is the thing about infrared lamps: they work by getting a tungsten filament hot enough to glow. This creates a massive temperature gap between the white-hot center and the outer glass. If the glass isn’t built for this, the internal stress becomes too much. It bursts. By using treated, explosion-proof quartz, we stop that from happening. It keeps the glass from shattering into a million pieces while you’re trying to enjoy a shower. It’s about peace of mind. Getting the Heat Where It Belongs We use high-purity fused quartz for a simple reason: it lets the heat pass right through. Instead of the glass soaking up the energy and getting dangerously hot itself, the infrared radiation goes straight to you. It feels like a warm hug on a cold morning. Plus, we seal the end caps tight. Steam is sneaky. If it leaks into the electrical parts, your filament will burn out way too soon, or worse, you’ll get a short circuit. Those seals keep the guts of the heater dry and happy. The Balancing Act Nothing is perfect. There’s always a trade-off. If we make the glass too thick or add too many safety coatings, a bit of that heat gets blocked. We spend a lot of time finding that “sweet spot”—where the unit is incredibly safe, but still toasts you perfectly. One quick tip: if you’re installing a bunch of these in one area, give them some breathing room. Make sure your ventilation is up to the task so the heat doesn’t just build up around the reflectors.
